President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the arrest of Macau-based gambling tycoon Jack Lam, Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said Saturday (Dec. 3).

Speaking over dzBB radio, Dela Rosa said Duterte wants Lam arrested for bribery and economic sabotage charges.

“Kailangang mahuli agad si Jack Lam. Galit na galit si Pangulong Duterte,” Dela Rosa said.

In addition to ordering Lam’s arrest, the PNP chief said Duterte has ordered the closure of Lam’s casinos in the Philippines.

The PNP chief has appealed to the public to inform authorities about Lam’s whereabouts.

Lam made the headlines this week after Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II bared his alleged attempt to bribe him with P100 million a month to protect his business.

Speaking through interpreters and retired police official Wally Sombrero, Lam told Aguirre last Nov. 26 that he has long been looking for a “ninong” to protect his interests in the gambling business.

The justice secretary, however, turned the offer to be the Chinese gambling operator’s “godfather” down.

Lam’s Jimei Group operates the Fort Ilocandia casino in Ilocos Norte and the Fontana Leisure Park and Casino in Clark.
