Here’s Fariñas’s comeback at Trillanes over House probe criticisms

House Majority Floor Leader Rudy Fariñas took a personal dig at Senator Antonio Trillanes IV Monday (November 28), calling him someone who “investigates in aid of persecution”. Fariñas’s statements, which he gave during a press conference, were actually a response to Trillanes’s criticism of last week’s House Justice Committee hearing which featured New Bilibid Prison (NBP) drug trade witness, Ronnie Dayan.

“Sabi nung isang senador, ‘Naku, wala naman silang napatunayan. Yung kanilang nakuha doon will not stand in court’,” he said, obviously referring to Trillanes.

“Kasi nga siya, kung mag-file siya ng investigation, in aid of prosecution yung kanya eh or in aid of persecution. Kami kasi dito in aid of legislation,” Fariñas shot back.

Dayan is the self-admitted lover of Senator Leila de Lima. He also confessed to delivering money to De Lima in 2014, but insisted that he did know it was sourced from illegal drugs.

Trillanes, a staunch supporter of De Lima, said that the inconsistencies in Dayan’s testimony only muddled the issue.

He further advised the congressmen who conducted the hearing to “stand down and swallow their pride”.

“The senators are telling us what to do. They should not. We will not tell them [what to do]…respetuhin naman nila. Patakbuhin nila yung proseso, they can question it later on,” Fariñas said.
