There is no police impunity under President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano said, as he leads a Philippine delegation to Geneva in presenting the country’s human rights record.

“Anyone killed by the police is investigated. Although the police operations were presumed legitimate, the presumption is not conclusive,” Cayetano said during a gathering of the Filipino community in Geneva, Switzerland.

“If evidence shows that there is extrajudicial killing (EJK), kakasuhan po ang mga alagad ng batas,” the senator assured.

Cayetano, a close ally of the President, said that in the past, drug lords and criminals were even feared by cops.

“They’re not afraid of the law. The police were afraid of catching them. Dahil sila pa ang makakasuhan. The fiscals were afraid of powerful organizations,” he said.

Cayetano is leading the 16-member delegation in Geneva, Switzerland for the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).

Cayetano said the delegation would present the country’s human rights initiatives, as well as the administration’s efforts to protect vulnerable sectors of society.
