The Office of the Ombudsman has been asked to suspend Senator Leila De Lima for 90 days after admitting that he had an illicit affair with a married man.
Former Manila councilor and losing senatorial candidate Greco Belgica sought the suspension even as he filed a complaint against De Lima for gross misconduct and illegal acts prejudicial to the interest of the service.
“The fact remains that her relationship with Ronie Dayan, a married man is grossly immoral,” read his complaint.
Belgica explined that “for such conduct to warrant disciplinary action, the same must be ‘grossly immoral,’ that us, it must be so corruptn and false as to constitute a criminal act or so unprincipled as to be reprehensible to a high degree.”
Recently, De Lima admitted during a television interview that she had a romantic relationship with Dayan, her former driver and bodyguard. This, despite her earlier denials about the relationship.
De Lima has been accused of receiving money from drug lords within the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). Dayan allegedly served as her bagman for the dough, which she purportedly used to fund her campaign kitty.
