A Filipino-American leader who graduated from the Philippine Military Academy has questioned Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s motives for visiting American senators in Washington, DC., hinting he could be liable for treason.
Dan Jimenez, who’s based in Washington D.C., said Trillanes visited at least three US senators at the Capitol to discuss, among others, reports on extrajudicial killings under President Rodrigo Duterte, the possible pressure on US President Donald Trump to cancel his visit to the Philippines in November, and means to discredit Duterte’s war on drugs.
“Trillanes’ presentation included pictures of the murdered Ian de los Santos, claims of thousands killed in the drug war and of course, charges that Duterte has a policy of killing drug addicts,” he said.
Among the American senators whom Trillanes visited are Republicans Marco Rubio and Robert Aderholt.
He also met with Democratic Senator Bill Nelson.
While Jimenez said it was obvious that Trillanes is bent on ousting Duterte, he wondered how far the senator will go to make his dream come true.
He drew parallels between Trillanes’ actions and that of his American counterparts.
“Almost all democrats in the US Senate and Congress do not like Trump. But has anyone of them approached Russia or China for help in removing him from office?” he asked.
“And where does patriotism end and treason begins?” Jimenez added.
