PRESIDENT DUTERTE: COMMUNIST LEADERS ADMITTED HAVING NO CONTROL OVER ALL OPERATING UNITS OF THE NPA
President Duterte made the remark after the fourth round of talks between the government peace panel and the communist National Democratic Front and amid the government’s push for a bilateral ceasefire with the Reds.
“Niadmitar man na sila sa ako sa Malacañan, didto mi nanihapon, nga dili nila kontrolado tanang operating units sa NPA diri. Sorry nalang, padayon ta. Ako wala koy problema. Muhulat lang ko ug lima ka tuig, sibat nako. But that conflict will continue and will continue to punish kay magsige lang ta ug patay, puro ra ba ta Pilipino. Mao na ang pinakaluod diha.
[They admitted to me in Malacañan, when he had dinner, that they could not control all the operating units of the NPA here. I’m sorry, we can continue. I don’t have a problem. I will just wait for five years, then I’ll go. But that conflict will continue and will continue to punish because we won’t stop killing each other, when we’re all Filipinos. That’s the most disgusting part.]
President Duterte met Communist Party of the Philippines leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon recently in Malacañan.
President Duterte, however, believes that the fighting could end if Communist Party of the Philippines founder Jose Maria Sison would sign a bilateral ceasefire agreement with him.
“Unless mupirma si Sison ug bilateral, kaming duha muingon undang ug away. Wa ko muingon na i-surrender inyong armas. Ilubong lang. Ayaw mo pagdala ug armas, gawas lang. Walay dakop,” he said.
[Unless Sison signs a bilateral, both of us will announce that the fighting should stop. I didn’t say you should surrender your arms. Just bury it. Don’t bring your arms, just go out. No one will arrest you.]
