Trillanes turns over Matobato to PNP

Senator Antonio Trillanes turned over self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato to the Philippine National Police headquarters Friday less than an hour after leaving the Senate premises.
Matobato was first brought to the office of PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa but the latter was not there as he has a prior commitment.
He was then transferred to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to undergo the booking process.
As of posting time, Matobato has undergone fingerprinting and had his mug shots taken.
Trillanes said they are still waiting for the lawyer of Matobato for their legal options.
Matobato has an arrest warrant issued against him by a Davao court after he failed to show up at his scheduled arraignment on Tuesday over the case filed against him in 2014. The case is for illegal possession of firearms.
As he was about to be turned over to the PNP, Matobato said he leaves his fate up to God.
“Ako, handa na ako. ‘Yung buhay ko, binigay ko na sa Diyos. At kung ano ang mangyari sa akin, wala na akong magagawa,” Matobato said in an interview.
“Basta itama ko lang ‘yung pagkakamali ko,” he added.
Matobato has implicated President Rodrigo Duterte in extrajudicial killings in Davao City when the latter was the city mayor.
Trillanes on Friday said he will insist on the appearance of Matobato before the Senate probe on alleged extrajudicial killings despite the decision of panel chair Senator Richard Gordon to push through with the investigation sans Matobato.
Trillanes said Gordon’s decision to dismiss Matobato as a witness was “not yet final.”
Asked how he will convince the Senate panel to hear Matobato’s statements anew, Trillanes said: “I will do whatever I can.”
Trillanes also said the PNP custody of Matobato is “temporary.”
He reiterated that Matobato will still be under his protection after the self-confessed hitman has posted bail in connection with the illegal possession of firearms case against him.
“Temporary lang ito. Remember bailable ‘yung kaso niya. Dadaanan lang ‘yung kailangan na daanan, ‘yung pag-post ng bail, pag-arraign sa kanya, then kukuhanin ko ulit siya, ‘yung custody niya,” Trillanes said. —KG, GMA News
